Essential Qualities & Requirements
- Previous “hands on” personal care experience necessary to meet at least
skills level two requirements
- Cooking skills appropriate to older people
- Ability to run a home and keep it clean
- Confident driver with clean driving licence
- Physically and mentally fit for the job and in good health
- Neat and tidy appearance
- Appropriate dress sense, grooming and personal hygiene
- Good command of spoken and written English
- Appropriate communication, observation and reporting skills
- An appreciation of older people and the capacity to value them as
individuals
- Ability to understand and work with older people from a range of
cultural & social backgrounds
- Ability to understand the beliefs, values, practices, customs and needs
of older people and to recognise that they may be different from own
- Ability to fit in and respect the chosen lifestyle and homes of older
people and to respect their right to maintain choice, dignity, privacy, and
independence in their lives
- Kind, caring and sensitive approach
- Demeanour suitable for Oxford Aunts client group
- Capacity to empathise with the effects generated by loss of ability and
function
- Capacity to assist older people in maximising their physical and mental
potential

- Previous experience in caring for the elderly mentally infirm.
- Certificates in care work and manual handling or a nursing background are
